This great hike in Pitztal leads from Jerzens to a mountain hut at the top of a chairlift, then to Zollberg and down via a scenic ridge.
Jerzens to Zollberg Hiking Map
Location
This hike starts from the car park at the base of the Hochzeiger Bergbahn in Pitztal. There’s also a bus stop at the start of this hike – Hochzeiger A – with buses driving up from the centre of Jerzens village, which itself can be reached by bus from elsewhere in Pitztal Valley.
Tips
- Hiking poles* are useful on this hike, and make sure to bring a rain jacket as the weather can change quickly.
- Note that snow can remain on the peaks above into June.
- This hike has little technical difficulty, but a moderate amount of climb. To shorten the hike significantly, take the chairlift! Check the website for opening times (roughly June to mid-October).

Jerzens to Zollberg Hiking Route

From the valley station of the Hochzeiger Bergbahn, head to the left of the buiding and upwards along the hiking path through the fields. Follow the trail signs towards Stalderhütte/Hochzeiger Haus/Hochzeigerbahn Bergstation.
The walking route continues steeply through the forest, always zigzagging upwards, until you come out in the open again at Stalderhütte (see the website for opening hours – roughly mid-June to early October). From here, head upwards a little to a track and turn left, then take the first right at the track junction.

In a short distance, the hiking trail leads off again upwards to the left. After more zigzags, you reach a track again. Turn right to pass the Tanzalm and follow the track as it bends left to reach the Middle Station of the Hochzeigerbahn.
Here you’ll find the large Zeigerrestaurant, with indoor and outdoor seating, along with a small playground. Nearby is the large Zirben Park. Along a 1km route, you can find several playgrounds and activity stations that are fun for children of all ages (same opening times as the chairlift – see the website for details).
Hiking onward to Zollberg

When you’ve had a break, with perhaps a drink/food from the restaurant or an explanation of the Zirben Park, it’s time to head on up to Zollberg. From the restaurant, take the upper track to the right. Keep walking along the track until you reach a saddle with great views.
From here, hike to the right and you’ll soon be at the top of Zollberg. It’s now all downhill. After admiring the view, the hiking trail continues along the ridge and down through the forest.

Eventually, you’ll hit a track and turn right to head more gently downwards through the trees. Make sure to follow the hiking signs towards the Hochzeigerbahn Talstation (Valley Station).
In not too long, you’ll come out into the open grassy fields again. The path heads downhill and to the road. Turn right on the road and you’ll soon be back at the beginning, and the end of the Jerzens to Zollberg Hike.
