Venetalm, Pitztal, Hiking Route

From the car park, head a short distance up along the road, past the interesting chapel on your left. You’ll then see the hiking signs leading left and steeply up the grassy fields. This is the steepest part of the hike.
The path leads up into the forest, always towards the top of the ridge. When you reach the slightly flatter section at the top, take the hiking path to the left. When you reach the track, turn left and into the meadow.
Walk up through this field, which may contain cows, towards the first hut on this walk, Hochasteralm. This hut is quite small and is only open in the very middle of summer (unlike the Venetalm at the top which is open June to September).
At Venetalm

At the junction just before the hut, take the track towards the hut and then the hiking path leading up to the right. This follows the top of the gentle ridge and has very nice views on either side. In not too long, you’ll come out again into the open and cow meadows, with the Venetalm almost in sight.
Continue onwards and you’ll soon be at this medium-sized hut. There’s some nice outdoor seating and a small children’s playground. Grab a drink or some food, and be surrounded by the sound of cowbells and mountain views.
It is possible to continue further along this ridge, but we stopped at the hut. You could walk out-and-back as far as you want, or there are options for longer hikes as circular loops.
Hiking back down from Venetalm

When you’re ready, return down the track the way you came. This time, stick to the track along the edge of the fields as it begins to descend. Keep hiking along the main track, then when it bends left, take the walking path to the right. This path contours through the forest and you’ll soon return to the meadows by Hochasteralm.
From here, follow the same route you came up. In about 1.5 km you’ll be back at the car park and the end of the Venetalm Hike in Pitztal.
