Lac de Vassivière Countryside Walking Route

From the car park, walk down to the edge of the lake. Turn left along the nice, flat trail. In about 400 metres, take the walking path up to the left. This leads upwards and crosses the road around the lake before continuing up on the other side.
The trees and the heather begins. After some climb, you’ll reach the high point of the walk by Lac de Vassivière. There’s a viewpoint here with explanation boards (in French) about the different landscapes that you pass through on this walk.

After admiring the views, continue on the path, which now contours along the hillside, passing through lots of heather. The route begins to head downwards through some woodlands before reaching some flatter, open landscape at the bottom. Bending along the edge of some trees, the path then continues into the woods and over a couple of small stone bridges across streams.
The path soon leads over the road again and down to the edge of Lac de Vassivière on the other side. Turn left and you’ll soon be just below the car park where you started. Have a paddle, or sit and admire the views before you leave.
