Lauda Walking Tour Route
From the junction of Schmiederstraße and Blumenstraße, walk along Blumenstraße to the Marktplatz.
1. Kirche St. Jakobus
A church has been on this site since the 14th century, with several rounds of demolition and rebuilding since then. St. Jakobus church was most recently extended in 1955 but does still contain a few elements from the 17th century. Next to the church is the Pulverturm, or Powder Tower, an old stone tower within the remains of the old city wall.
Directions: Leave the church and head left along the road as it bends the corner and you reach the next stop.
2. Oberes Tor
The Oberes Tor is a watchtower from 1494 and one of the most distinctive landmarks of Lauda. Like the Pulverturm, it’s also within the old city walls, though these were removed in the 19th century and the space auctioned off to make way for housing.
Directions: Head through the gate and into the centre of Lauda. Head right through the Marktplatz square in front of the modern Rathaus. Turn left and then left again in about 100 metres along Marienstraße.
3. Marienstraße
Marienstraße is a lovely street to walk along in Lauda. There are some lovely half-timbered buildings and a nice square surrounded by restaurants and cafes.
Directions: At the little square, the next stop is just to your left.
4. Heimatmuseum
Key Information: Open Apr-Oct, Sunday and PH from 3-5pm.
The Heimatmuseum is located in a lovely half-timbered house in the centre of Lauda. It contains some models of the town, impressions of the life and work of a winegrowing family, and an old school classroom among other exhibits. In German only.
Directions: Head back to the little square and turn left to reach the car park and the end of the Lauda Walking Tour.
