The short walk from the Wieskirche is a lovely little loop along a countryside road, a forest track and a path through moorland.

Location
This walk starts from the car park by the Wieskirche. It’s €2 for up to 2 hours, then an extra €0.5 per hour up to a maximum of €10 per day. If you’re driving between Munich or Augsburg and Füssen, detouring via the Wieskirche adds roughly an extra 15 minutes.
Tips
- The Wieskriche is free to enter and open 8am-8pm in summer, 8am-5pm in winter.
- Visit the Wieskirche on the way to/from Neuschwanstein Castle for a pleasant short walk in the countryside.
- There’s a little kiosk in the car park selling drinks and snacks, and a couple of other cafes/restaurants in the village of Wies, just by the famous church.

Wieskirche Short Walk Route
Head out of the car park by the kiosk, and you’ll already see the Wieskirche nearby. Walk right then almost immediately left on a small road leading up to the Wieskirche. Enter the church and have a look around. If you have a particular interest, you can buy an explanation leaflet for €3 in any of many languages just inside. The church isn’t that big, so you might only spend 5-10 minutes inside.
After the Wieskirche, head out and turn left along the quiet road. There are some nice views back to the church and of the surrounding countryside. The road starts to head into a woodland. When you reach a junction with several hiking signs, turn right along a wide track into the forest.
Through Forest and Moorland
Keep walking along the main track, ignoring any turnoffs. The track bends slightly left, right, then left again, and also undulates through the trees. After 1km, you’ll reach an obvious hiking trail. Turn right here.
Soon you’ll leave the forest and come out into open moorland. There ground is very wet and boggy, but there are wide, solid wooden planks to walk along so you should keep your feet dry. It’s a lovely area to walk through and there are nice views in the distance of the mountains.
After about half a kilometre, you’ll come out into a field and see the Wieskirche in the distance again. Follow the path as it leads to the left towards some farm buildings. Head straight onwards and you’ll be back at the Wieskirche car park and the end of this short walk.
