2. Visit the Castle of Grinzane Cavour
The Castle of Grinzane Cavour is an imposing 12th-century castle with gorgeous views, and visiting is one of the best things to do near Alba. At the castle, you can visit a couple of museums, stroll to great viewpoints, take a longer walk through the vineyards, dine in the restaurant or taste the local wine.

Get Advance Tickets: You can buy tickets on-site, but in busier times (sunny summer weekends), it may be worth buying tickets in advance from Viator*.
3. Stroll through the Scenic Vineyards
There are many hiking trails through the gently rolling hills near Alba, and walking along them is one of the best things to do nearby. You can find short walks, such as that around Barbaresco Vineyards or from Govone Town, or day hikes like this walk from Barolo.
4. Discover the Charming Smaller Towns
There are many lovely towns to visit in the region, with Barolo, Monforte d’Alba and La Morra being three of the nicest. Barolo, most famous for its wine, is full of restaurants and wine shops and has a castle with a museum partly about the wine. Not far away, Monforte is a cute old town winding up the hillside with great views from the top. La Morra is another hilltop town with fabulous views from a large terrace.
5. Get cultured in Turin
There’s loads to do in Turin, which can be reached by train in about 1hr15 from either Alba or Asti. There are famous museums, grand buildings, Roman remains, shopping streets, a huge market, palaces and much more.
Visit on a self-guided or guided walking tour*.
Best Museums: Get the most out of the museums by booking a guided tour of the Egyptian Museum* or the National Museum of Cinema*.
6. Drink wine and hunt for truffles!
You may see truffles being sold on the streets of the local towns, particularly during the truffle season in Autumn. The International Alba White Truffle Fair happens at this time and draws people from all over the world. The wine of Barolo is equally famous, with Barbaresco catching up and Asti Spumante a great pick for those who don’t like reds.
Best Tour: This popular Truffle Hunting Experience* is a great way to really learn how to find the famous truffles.
