Como Lakeside Walking Route
From the car park or bus stop, first check out the striped Church of San Lorenzo. Next door, to the left of the church, you’ll see the lovely Villa Bertoni Terrazzo, one of the many elegant villas that line this section of Como Lakeside.
Cross over the road into the lovely park (Parco Civico Teresio Olivelli). This is one of the nicest lakeside areas of Como. Although it’s fairly small, there’s a lovely fountain, plenty of trees for shade, and you can also swim off the steps.
After strolling through the park, leave through the gate at the far end and turn right along the road. The walking route now follows the edge of Lake Como all the way to the far end. It’s a mix of pavement and pedestrian walkways, sometimes through little green spaces.
Always try and keep as close to the lake as possible. Where there are small car parks by the lake, the pavement often continues between the cars and the lake. This means you don’t need to walk behind the cars, but can keep right by the water.
Grand Hotel Tremezzo & Villa Carlotta
Soon you’ll come to Grand Hotel Tremezzo*. This is one of the finest places to stay on Lake Como. With several swimming pools, restaurants, lounges, bars, a wellness centre and much more, it’s the place to stay to feel like a celebrity. The lovely-looking seafood restaurant is open to all, but the prices are very high.
Continuing along the lakeshore, Villa Carlotta is just a short distance further. This popular lakeside villa, formerly lived in by royalty, houses an art collection, plus you can visit the gorgeous botanical garden. Get tickets online here*.
Walking further along Lake Como, you’ll pass more villas and fancy hotels. The views over the lake are fantastic. At the far end of the walk, roughly 2.5 km from the start, you round a corner and can see the high Alps in the far distance. From here, you can either walk back the way you came or take a bus from the nearby bus stop back to the beginning.
