This out-and-back coastal walk near Albufeira leads you past gorgeous beaches, hidden coves and over striking cliffs.
Coastal Walk near Albufeira Hiking Map
Location
This hike starts from the free car park at Beach Evaristo. It’s 10-15 minutes drive from Albufiera, or 50 minutes from Faro. By public transport, you can take a 15-minute bus from Albufeira to a bus stop on the main road, then walk 10 minutes to the beach.
Tips
- Beach Evaristo, the start of this hike, is itself is a lovely spot, and great for a swim after this coastal walk.
- There are a couple of restaurants at different beaches along this hike. They generally open at 10am, and sometimes only on weekends outside of summer.
- You can extend the hike by continuing along the coastal trail for another 2 km before returning, and even continue a bit further to walk back into Albufeira. This could be a good option if you get the bus to the start of the hike.

Coastal Walk near Albufeira Hiking Route
From the car park at Beach Evaristo, head along one of the many small trails towards the ocean. There are several trails here, all quite small and all leading roughly in the same direction.
It doesn’t matter which one you take, but head left to walk along the clifftops. There are many small shrubs that the trails wind around, then you soon get to a great viewpoint above Praia do Castelo (Castelo Beach).
Follow the steps downwards to reach the sandy beach. Head along the sand, then up to the left behind the restaurant. Cross through the car park to the trails on the other side. Again, there are many paths you could take. It doesn’t really matter which you choose, but stick close to the cliff edge to get the best views.
The path passes several little bays, then heads back down some steps to Praia da Coelha (Coelha Beach). Take a look at the beach, then continue along the road leading upwards from the beach for a short distance. The path along the coast heads up to the right from the road and back towards the clifftops.
Hiking further along the Coast
Head towards the ocean for great views, before bending back slightly inland again. You’ll soon be above Praia da Ponta Grande, with a mega mansion on your left.
Continue a little bit further, and you’ll reach a viewpoint of Praia do Ninho (Ninho Beach) down to your right. This beach is a hidden cove, with cliffs separating the beach and shallow water from the open sea.
It’s officially illegal to walk down to Praia do Ninho (there’s a fence with a (broken) gate on the steps downwards). This is because the cliffs are unstable, so it’s dangerous, but many people ignore this warning.
The clifftop viewpoint of this beach is the furthest point on this coastal hike near Albufeira. When you’re ready, return the way you came, perhaps heading on the straighter trails slightly further back from the cliffs to make the way back quicker.
