Walk near Faro Airport Route

From the car park, head to the roundabout and then right along the road on the other side of the pond. After roughly 200 metres, there’s a large trail leading off to the left. Follow this.

For just over 2.5 km, this trail takes you through the salt marshes and wetlands, part of the Parque Natural da Ria Formosa. This part of the hike is also called the ‘Ludo Trail’.

At the far side of the marshes, you reach a two-story wooden bird hide. If you’re lucky, you can see flamingoes, spoonbills, and other interesting birds from here.

To continue with the walk, turn right on the trail separating the golf course and the marshes. You pass a large pond on your left, where there’s another bird hide and you might see other types of birds. A little bit further, you’ll find the Roman salting fish tanks. These ruins are not super impressive but there’s an information board in English.

This is the far point of the walk near Faro Airport. In the past, you could make it a loop, but now the path through the salt marshes is blocked off and you have to return the way you came. This gives you another chance to spot the birds!
