Škofja Loka Walking Tour Route
Directions: From Šeširski Most Bridge, head towards the town. Pass Gostilna Kašča, a restaurant in an old stone building on your left. Take the first right, up the steps towards the church.
1. St. Jacob’s Church

St. Jacob’s Church is a Gothic church built in 1471. Make sure to check out the painted ceiling inside – these frescos come from the 16th century. The little square in front of the church is also very cute and a great place to grab a drink or a bite to eat.
Directions: Walk left around the church, then take the small alley leading right to the town square.
2. Old Town Square

The Old Town Square is the centre of Škofja Loka, and is lined by colourful Medieval buildings. Here you’ll find many cafes and shops – Kavarna Homan (Homan Bar) is a great place for a bite to eat and also has delicious ice cream.

Directions: Walk to the far end of the square and back. Return to the little square in front of the church and continue across it to walk across the small bridge.
3. Capuchin Bridge

The best viewpoint of Capuchin Bridge is actually the smaller bridge below it that you walk across. After walking across this small bridge, you can take the first left, then left again across Capuchin Bridge itself. This bridge is named after the church on the far side of the river.
Directions: After crossing Capuchin Bridge, continue onwards and take the steps in front of you. Shortly after the top of the steps, take the small paved route heading upwards towards the castle. Follow the path around the castle walls and to the top.
4. Škofja Loka Castle (Loški Grad)

Key Information: Museum open Tue-Sun, 10am-5/6pm, and also open on Mondays June-September. Entrance tickets are €9/5 per adult/child. The castle also has a little cafe with nice views.
Škofja Loka Castle is a medieval castle that dominates the town. There are several good viewpoints around the small grounds. On the far side of the castle is a little park, or open-air museum, with some reconstructed old buildings that show what life was like in medieval times.
Inside the castle itself is a museum about local archaeology, history, art and much more. There are several floors of exhibits, though not every exhibition has English translations.

Directions: Leave the castle the way you came, but this time take a right to walk down the path through the green open area. This will bring you down past the old town walls to a small square. Continue walking down the tree-linrd street and turn left along the road at the bottom. This will bring you to the bridge where you started, and the end of the Škofja Loka Walking Tour.
