The hike up Slavnik Peak is fairly easy, with great views from the top stretching all the way to the coastline and a small mountain hut.
Slavnik Peak Hiking Map
Location
This hike starts from a car park (Pay with EasyPark) near the village of Podgorje, towards the coast of Slovenia. You can also get a bus here from Koper in about 1 hour.
Tips
- The mountain hut at the top is quite small and often closed, so don’t rely on it for food or drink.

Slavnik Peak Hiking Route

Leave the car park and turn right towards Podgorje village. Take the road to the left by the houses. Take the third road to the left, signposts with red hiking signs and a yellow sign marking hiking route P1, which you follow all the way.
Take the next road to the right, then the track to the left to head upwards into the forest. After heading straight uphill, the path turns slightly right to lead diagonally up the forested slope. Keep following the P1 hiking signs towards Slavnik Peak.
After about 1 km in the woods, you’ll come out into the open near the top. There are great views from here, which get even better towards the top of Slavnik Peak. On clear days, you can see all the way to the ocean, including the coastal Italian city of Trieste.
At the Top of Slavnik Peak

The path continues upwards and soon you’ll be at the top. There’s a small mountain hut here, which is sometimes open but often closed. If it’s closed, you can sit on the outdoor seating to enjoy the view. The very top of Slavnik Peak is a few metres behind the hut, so make sure to head up there.
When you’re ready, head a few metres down the way you came up. This time, take the path leading off to the left down the grassy slope. Just after crossing a track, you’ll reach a second track. Turn left here, then keep right as the track heads back into the forest.

Follow the track as it heads downwards. You can take a few minor shortcuts on paths between larger bends in the track. Nearer the bottom of the slope, the track bends right and then continues straight towards Podgorje village.
In a while, you’ll enter the village and the track turns into a road. At the junction, take the first right and you’ll soon recognise where you are. Head back the way you came to the car park and the end of the Slavnik Peak Hike.
