Schwägalp Short Walk Route

Passhöhe Gasthaus at Schwägalp, Appenzell, Switzerland

From the car park by the side of the road, head towards Gasthaus Passhöhe. Turn right up the road just in front of the building, then take the first path heading off to the right. This is a good trail through the fields towards some forest. In front of you are fantastic close-up views of the steep, rocky mountain range.

At the edge of the wood, there’s a short out-and-back along some boardwalk over the marsh. Head to the end and look out for the different types of plants labelled on the ground. Return along the boardwalk and continue along the trail.

The route heads uphill through the trees and back out into the open along a wall. Soon you’ll reach a bigger track. Take this to the right, through the gate in the stone wall. Once you reach the woods again, take the little path to the right. This leads through the forest and then rejoins the main track.

In a short distance, you’ll reach the main road. Turn right and follow the road a few hundred meters to return to your car and the end of the short walk at Schwägalp.
