Danta Village and Forest Walking Route
From the car park outside the hotel, walk along the road into Danta Village. You can already see great views of the surrounding rocky Dolomite mountains from the main road. Danta is a cute little town with few tourists, and you’ll see several cute barns and houses dotted on either side of the street.
After the steep road cutting to the right, you’ll soon see a minor road/track heading slightly downward and parallel to the main road. Follow this to have a nicer walk along a traffic-free route, with great views over the mountains. Soon you’ll reach a paved road again – head upwards to the centre of town.
At the main junction of Danta you’ll see the main church to your left and a small shop to your right. There’s also a small viewpoint down the steps straight onwards, in front of the post office.
Walking up to Danta Chapel
When you’re ready, head left up to the road towards the church. Walk up the steps to the church and around its right-hand side. Turn right to the graveyard, left through the flat area in front and take the small path that follows the graveyard wall around the corner.
The path leads up through a lovely hay meadow. It’s fairly short but steep and reaches a little white chapel with a great viewpoint. There are several benches by the chapel to sit on to admire the view, and behind the building there’s an information panel naming all the mountains you can see.
Continue down the track behind the church and into the forest. The track winds through the woodland, past another little chapel, with occasional glimpses of the surrounding mountains. Take the left at the first fork and you’ll come to a house with great views. Take another sharp left here, heading downhill and continue to the main road. Turn left and you’ll soon be back at the car park and the end of the Danta Village and Forest Short Walk.
