Lechsee Loop Walking Route
From the car park, walk past the Biergarten on its left-hand side along the little peninsula. You’ll soon see an impressive wooden bridge across the water. Before you cross, head a little further to the end of the peninsula where there’s a bird lookout. Make sure to approach quietly so as not to scare the birds away!
After crossing the bridge, turn right. There are several signposts along the route ‘Lechsee Rund’, or ‘Lech Lake Round’. These guide you around the entire lake. In the first section, there are several scenic benches, plus a little pontoon sticking out into the water. It’s a great viewpoint, and if it’s clear you’ll see the majestic Alps in the background.
Walking around the end of the Lake
Continuing onwards, you’ll come to a road junction and the entrance to the Via Claudia Campsite. You can walk left along the road, but it’s nicer and more interesting to head straight onwards and walk through the campsite. To your right, you’ll see spots right next to the water, with views across the lakes to the mountains. There are many semi-permanent structures here, and it’s quite interesting to see all the different setups.
At the far end of the campsite is a gate that’s always open. Head through here and bend right around the far end of the lake. Currently (2024) they are working on the dam, so you have to take the path behind the dam itself to cross the lake. When you return to the dam, you can walk up the steep grassy slope to the top to return to the lakeshore and fabulous views.
Keep by the water’s edge until you reach a boat club. Here you head a little upwards and along the edge of a forest, before soon returning to the lake. The path is rather lovely here, a little route right by the water, but now the views of the mountains are gone. You’ll walk through quite a wild little section before reaching a road and another bridge.
Cross over the bridge and head right back down to the water in front of the houses on the other side. Continue onwards, staying as close to the water as possible. You’ll see a small rapids in the Lech River, and then walk through another section that feels quite wild. Soon you’ll return to the car park and the end of the Lechsee Loop Walk.
